Matangi Private Island Resort Fiji is a truly unique small island resort in the South Pacific Islands. Set on a 240-acre private island, the enviable setting offers gorgeous beaches, tropical rain forest and some of the world's best scuba diving sites. This small luxury Fiji resort offers individual beachfront and ocean view bungalows, all handcrafted from local materials, one villa plus three Tree House Bures overlooking the beach and ocean.

Matagi Island is the smallest of a cluster of volcanic islands off the eastern tip of Taveuni. Wrapped around a submerged crater, the entire Matangi area is a Scuba divers mecca. Matangi's private cottages are set within lovely tropical gardens, along with a lovely main dining room and lounge area, a fleet of boats and a dive facility. Shore diving and snorkeling is available right in front of the resort.

In addition to some of Fiji's best scuba diving, Matagi is also wonderful for its beautiful white sand beaches, hiking through the lush rainforest, or a cultural visit to one of the local native villages. An opportunity to experience the weekly Meke (Fijian party with lots of singing, dancing and traditional foods) and the demonstration of warrior dances is itself well worth the price of admission.

All of Matangi Resort's lodging rooms include a mini-bar stocked with bottled Fiji water, soft drinks (soda pop), beer and wine. Tea and coffee making facilities are also available for your convenience. In addition to the owners' villa, there are three main lodging styles:

Island Bure -- Two of Matangi's lodgings are Island Bures. Each Island Bure features a separate living and sleeping area with king size bed, day bed, ceiling fans and private verandah.

Beachfront Bure -- Seven Bures are Beachfront. In true Polynesian style, they are round in shape and feature separate living and sleeping areas with king size bed, day bed, ceiling fans and private veranda only steps away from the beach.

Treehouse Bure -- The most luxurious of Matangi's accommodation styles are the three unique Tree House Bures. These gorgeous dwellings are built around trees on the steep cliffs overlooking the beach. The Tree House Bures feature separate living and sleeping areas with king size bed, ceiling fans and a large timber decking with gorgeous views across the Tasman Straits. Two of them include outdoor river-rock showers as well as conventional indoor showers. These Tree House Bures are perfect for honeymooners and couple’s wanting a romantic getaway with maximum privacy.

Packages include: transfer from Taveuni Airport, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, hotel taxes, and two daily boat dives. Traveling to Fiji and Matangi Island Resort International Flights -- Fiji's national carrier, Air Pacific, offers regular flights between Fiji and 13 major cities including Los Angeles, Honolulu, Toronto, Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland, Christchurch and Tokyo. Fiji's international airport is situated in the town of Nadi, on the Western Coast of Viti Levu. Access to Matangi Island requires a domestic flight to Taveuni Island, followed by a short boat transfer to Matangi. Domestic Flight -- Matangi's neighbour, Taveuni Island, is serviced by two Fiji airlines, Sun Air and Air Fiji, with regularly scheduled flights from Nadi and Suva, the two major international airports in Fiji. Both Fiji airlines operate daily services with a flight time of approximately ninety minutes from Nadi. Domestic Fiji air flights are a grand opportunity to view the majestic islands of Fiji, and see the extensive coral reef systems surrounding them. You may want to have your camera handy for a few aerial photos. Local Transfer -- A mini-bus will meet you at the Taveuni airport, and will take you on a scenic, 20-minute drive to the boat landing, where one of our boats will meet you. This is a wet landing, so please be prepared to wade to the boat. The water taxi takes about 20 minutes to get to the resort.
